Pavilion "Klassenzimmer der Zukunft"
The pavilion will be closed after the duration of the exhibition LABORSCHULE BERLIN (until 15.9.24).
Since summer 2024, the nGbK has opened a new temporary space called “Classroom of the Future” on the green space Place Internationale near the station urbaner kulturen/nGbK Hellersdorf. A former trade fair pavilion has been rebuilt as an exhibition space and educational resource for various collaborations between local residents, artists, pupils and students. The pavilion was designed in 1971 by Heinz Scheid (ABB Architekten) according to Otl Aicher’s new corporate design for Dresdner Bank. It stood on the grounds of Frankfurt trade fair until 1983, where it served as a service center for the bank’s customers. After various interim uses, the nGbK acquired the pavilion, parts of which had since been structurally altered, and renovated it extensively with its partners Bildungsverein Bautechnik, pupils from the Knobelsdorff-Schule and the local Konrad-Wachsmann-Schule. By restoring the pavilion, the nGbK advocates recycling and conversion instead of demolition and disposal.
