Presentation of the Call for Ideas – Castle Appropriation
Welcome and introduction: Annette Maechtel (member of the jury) and Philipp Oswalt (Initiative Castle Appropriation)
Artists, architects and designers from sixteen countries submitted 152 works to the “Castle Appropriation” call for ideas, presenting a wide range of ideas for interventions on the Berlin Palace façade in terms of content and design. From these, the jury members Julia Grosse, Annette Maechtel and Hito Steyerl have selected 21 works that will be publicly presented by their authors at the nGbK. Afterwards, the audience is invited to discuss the proposals (moderated by Anh-Linh Ngo).
A free publication from DOM publishers with the 21 selected works and several texts on the topic will be launched during the event.
In order to lend political weight to its demand for changes to the Humboldt Forum’s appearance and the handling of right-wing donors, the Castle Appropriation Initiative has also launched a Bundestag petition (No. 166538), which can be signed on the Bundestag website until November 7, 2024:
https://epetitionen.bundestag.de/content/petitionen/_2024/_04/_22/Petition_166538.html
Anyone – regardless of age, nationality and place of residence – is entitled to sign the petition. The petition can be signed digitally after registering on the Bundestag website or in analog form on a signature list, which can be downloaded from the website www.schlossaneignung.de. If the quorum of 30,000 supporters is reached, the petitioner will be heard in a public committee meeting.
Further information on the initiative is available at www.schlossaneignung.de
