Ina Barfuss: Modern Humanity. Paintings and Drawings 1979–1982
This small catalogue was published to accompany the exhibition of the same name organized at the nGbK by RealismusStudio. The working group members Barbara Straka, Ulla Frohne, and Michael Eisen wrote introductory texts about Ina Barfuss’s work, that deals with petit-bourgeois decadence and hopelessness, with the zeitgeist of so-called postmodernity. Barbara Straka writes: “What the pictures show is the outer and inner hell—the hell of ‘relationships’ between man and woman, in the nuclear family, the hell of the individual: chaos, meaninglessness, violence.” The focus is on inner and outer damage, the real and the unreal, constraints and ugliness. At the end of the book, Jeannot L. Simmen writes about the works made jointly by Barfuss and her partner Thomas Wachweger, a partnership that was very important for the artist.
