Liese Petry: Tolstefanz – Bilder aus einer Berliner Tanzkneipe

Year: 1978 Type: Loose-leaf collection Languages: German Format: DIN A4, loose sheets, punched

The seventh RealismusStudio publication is an A4-format loose-leaf portfolio. Featuring the artist Liese Petry, it documented and accompanied the exhibition of the same name and two discussion events at the nGbK in October and November 1978. The Tolstefanz was a meeting place for teenagers, apprentices, and students in Berlin known for offering free entry, good music, and long opening hours. Over time there were more and more police raids, as well as criminal charges for theft and drug offenses, until a 10 pm curfew was finally imposed on the venue, effectively leading to its closure. A smart restaurant then opened in its place, pushing out the subculture. The portfolio follows this process with texts, illustrations, a list of works by the artist, a floorplan of the Tolstefanz, flyers, and press clippings.
